Kingston upon Thames has been home to great markets for hundreds of years and there is a fine tradition of buying and selling goods in the borough. The earliest markets in Kingston date back to the early 1200’s.

The two biggest and most well known markets are the Ancient Market and The Monday Market. If you are lucky enough to live in the Kingston area then the best way to and from these markets is by private taxi by Elite Car Service. The Ancient Market

The Ancient Market is open seven days a week and can be found in the center of Kingston near the river. It is best known for its food products selling fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and bread.

It is also a bustling place that hosts great entertainment including music and dance with occasional theatre productions.

Even though this market is fairly small it does have frequent guest stalls specialising in different cuisines from around the world. Purchasing delicious food from the stallholders is a far cheaper alternative to the local cafes and restaurants.

The Monday Market

If you head down to the Cattle Market car park any Monday between 9am and 2pm there is a great weekly market that offers everything from fresh foodstuffs and also vintage clothing, fabrics, books, household goods.

Kingston Market’s Best Food Stalls

The addition of thriving food stalls in the Ancient Market brings many customers to the Ancient Market, and some of the best of them are:-

  • What Da Pho – you can find this busy Vietnamese street stall tucked between the market and Market House. The service is fast and friendly and the prices really good. Dishes to choose would be the grilled pork shoulder, and the summer rolls.
  • Obama Burgers – a really popular stall with the student fraternity. Obama Burgers offer classic American style burgers at a competitive price to the big chains. One of the most popular is the Cheese Philly Steak Burger and there is also vegetarian offerings such as the Chickpea Burger.
  • Namu – for lovers of Japanese food Namu is a great place to stop off and have an authentic Japanese meal. Especially busy at lunchtimes the wait may be a little longer than some of the stalls but it is well worth it. Try the Tempura Udon Soup or Gyoza and you are bound to be impressed.
Knot – for a delicious cup of coffee and perhaps a light snack, Knot is well worth paying a visit. The speciality is strong Arabic coffee but a selection of teas is also available.
